Zip Water Boiler Repairs & Fault Finding

Zip Water Boiler Repairs & Fault Finding

Your Zip Water Boiler is one of the most reliable in the U.K, but even the highest quality water boilers can fail from time to time. Especially as they age. Zip water boilers are manufactured to follow a very simple process which is to automatically fill, heat and dispense hot water for office drinks.

How often should my Zip Boiler need servicing?

All Zip Boilers should be serviced a minimum of once per annum (this varies depending on the hardness of your water supply) to improve taste. Regular servicing helps prevent the buildup of unwanted limescale and increases the life of your boiler. You should use a genuine Zip Service Kit as this helps with preventative maintenance.

There are a number of items that can fail on your zip water boiler, we will explore the most common issues below.

Why is water flowing from my Zip Water Boiler expansion pipe?

There are three main causes of a leakage or dripping from the expansion pipe:

  • Your ball valve might need replacing. All Zip water boilers are fitted with a cistern. There is a ball valve in this cistern that shuts the water off when the hot tank is full. This may be broken.
  • Inlet nozzle is blocked/ broken. If your ball valve is functional, then it should seal against the inlet nozzle. If the inlet nozzle is contaminated with scale or broken your boiler will overfill.
  • Overboiling via the thermostat. Overboiling down the outlet pipe causes a drip. This can happen when your ball valve and inlet nozzle are both functioning, but your thermostat is overboiling the water because its faulty.

Why isn’t my boiler heating?

Here some reasons why this may be happening:

  • Inadequate electrical supply. This should only be performed by a competent person. Your boiler is likely to be connected by a fused spur, check the fuse located in the spur and check the fuse in the main circuit board.
  • Water supply turned off. Your Zip boiler will refuse to heat if there is no supply of water to the unit. Check any valves on the supply pipe and check all valves upstream of the equipment.
  • Broken heater element. If you’re certain that your boiler has an adequate electrical supply, yet the water is not heating this could be caused by a broken element.
  • Broken water fill sensors. If you’re certain that your boiler has an adequate water supply, the issue may be caused by a faulty sensor. Remove the lid from your boiler and ensure that water is touching the first sensor at the bottom of the unit.
