I’ve been offered a quotation for a mains fed water cooler but my supplier says that it needs to be within 5 or 10 metres of mains water, why is this?

The most likely explanation for a water cooler company restricting the pipework distance is that they have chosen not to complete pre site inspection. In truth, if your new equipment is being installed so close to a mains water feed then you probably don’t need one. If your quotation is for a replacement of a machine and the previous installation is already WIAPS Certified then this is fine too. There are instances however, when you might need some help in getting one installed further away and this is where you really need a company with WIAPS trained engineers. Not all water cooler providers have invested in WIAPS training for their staff. Remember, only a WIAPs approved plumber can make significant alterations to your existing pipework without a pre notification to you local water board.

How far away can a mains fed water cooler be plumbed in from?

There’s a common misconception that your new water cooler which we’ll plumb in directly from the nearest mains supply must be very close to a wate pipe and this really isn’t the case. If you want a new water cooler installed into the middle of your office space, there is no need to look at the location of your kitchen and presume that the distance is too far. Our Engineers have completed specialist WIAPS training for this very reason – so we’re able to extend your existing 15mm pipework which allows us to take a feed for your brand new water cooler. We’ll run extended pipework where we can and if the pressure in your building is good, then you’ll be amazed at how far away from a water source that a mains fed water cooler can be fitted.
