The Thirst Alternative is a proud supplier of authentic Zip Boiler spares, if you are not too sure on whether the components on your unit need replacing here are some indicators.
Tap Assembly
The tap assembly on a Zip boiler has several components that may influence the part needing a replacement.
- The spring: This can break from continued use, this can be determined by the head becoming flimsy and a constant drip which fills the drip tray.
- Rubber seal: This can perish overtime due to continued use, this can be determined by a constant drip.
- The screw head: The threaded part of the tap can crack due to heat exposure, this will be visible as a hairline crack in the red part of the tap.
These issues require a replacement tap assembly. Components are not available from zip separately.
Element – element kit
The element itself can fail (internal electrics) in which case you need a new element.
- Seals may perish when using acid to breakdown scale. This can happen during a service where descale fluid is used. The build-up of scale around the seal is a constant issue for boilers that aren’t regularly serviced, hence the main reason for the failure of the seal.
No company provides replacement seals as Zip do not sell standalone seals, however the Thirst Alternative has a specialist supplier which sells element seals. The Thirst Alternative can carry out seal replacements without the need for a whole new element. This reduces waste and cost!
Zip provide this as a complete set, you cannot buy the element seal separately from Zip.

Float Valve Kit
- Hinge on the valve can break
- Seal wont seal against the jet to prevent water getting into the unit.
A classic sign that you need a new ball valve is excessive water flowing from the overflow pipe. This can present as a drip or a steady flow.
